“Catfish” So Confused by the Trailer

22 Sep

I was told by a friend to watch the trailer for “Catfish” after doing so I am absolutely flabbergasted.  It starts out like a documentary about a guy who has a relationship with a girl on facebook. His film maker friends are filming the whole thing, making fun of him, ragging on his comments to her on facebook etc.

Then the trailer takes a turn for the weird.  They decide to drive to her farm in like Minnesota or Michigan or something like that and pull into her driveway and something crazy begins to happen but the thing is the trailer doesn’t tell you anything.  I am so confused.  I have no idea what the movie is about but I am guessing its something crazy from the music and intense editing of the trailer.

This film showed at Sundance and allegidley got rave reviews.  I hope it comes to Lafayette so that I can check it out and cure my curiousity from the trailer.

New Movie: Easy A

6 Sep

If you haven’t heard there is a new movie coming out  called “Easy A” its the story of the Scarlett Letter in high school.  Seems like a really funny concept made funnier by a girl helping out her gay best friend by pretending to have sex with him at one of the school’s biggest parties.  She is then subject  to ridicule by the school’s religious groups and “good girls”and asked to help out all other guys needing the sort of reputation “help” that she can give.

The main character is acted by Emma Stone who is this quiry red head who is really funny.  I saw her previously in “The House Bunny” which I thought she was hilarious in.  Amanda Bynes, who was allegedly retired, also plays in his movie as the religious biggot girl.  If you don’t know Amanda Bynes is hilarious.  Check her out in “She’s the Man” based on Shakespeare‘s “Twelfth Night” one of the funniest movies! Lisa Kudrow also plays a smaller role in this movie…and you have to know that she is to die for funny.

Although this is a teen movie I am pretty pumped about it.  I think its going to be super funny and an overall good time.  We will see! it open on September 17th.  Hopefully Forrest will want to see it after I picked out “Vampires Suck” last time. 😦

“The Runaways” Starring Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart

28 Jul

If you guys haven’t heard Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart recently starred in a film called “The Runaways” which is a bio pic about the 70s girl band who became famous with their well know hit “Cherrybomb.” Fanning plays lead singer and super young sex symbol Cherie Currie and Stewart plays badass Joan Jett.

Both girls do a great job depicting their characters which I am sure is super difficult anytime playing a well know “real” person.  The girls also did all of their own vocals which is pretty impressive.

The movie follows the band as they are established go on their first tour and their breakup.  Since this is set in 1975 the movie has a really cool feel with lots of vintage details that make the sets and scenes feel really authentic.  All in all I was super impressed.

“The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud” by Ben Sherwood

10 Jul

I picked up this book on Tuesday at the bookstore because I had seen the movie trailer for the new movie “Charlie St. Cloud” with Zac Efron.  It seemed like a good story from the trailer so I decided to read the book.

Needless to say this book surpassed my expectations.  It is the story of a man named Charlie St. Cloud who lots his brother in a car accident when they were younger.  It follows St. Cloud in his life following the accident and how he wastes a large portion of his life keeping his promise to his brother.

It seems that the movie is loosely based on the book due to some main differences like age but that said the book was really great. It was the type of book that made me as a reader to feel a variety of feelings, sadness, happiness, longing, anger etc.  The book also had a few little twists which were nice as well.

This book does has a little supernatural feel to it but it by no means fantasy or Sci Fi.  It is a great story of loss and love. Check it out.  Oh also the movie with Zac Efron (how can you resist) is coming out on July 30th.

Toy Story 3 was amazing!

21 Jun

So as promised we went to see Toy Story 3 for Father’s Day.  For the past year my 4 year old son honestly thinks that he is Buzz Lightyear.  So we let him wear his Buzz Lightyear costume to the movies, gloves and all.  He had a blast and everyone that we passed treated him like a celebrity…he even got in for free.

The movie was great…a perfect ending to a really great trilogy.  Forrest and I both cried and are not ashamed to say so.

If you haven’t seen it GO you will not be disappointed.

So many movies in so little time

14 May

I am a huge movie buff.  I have been interested in movies forever but more recently during college where I graduated in Broadcasting and even more than making movies I love to go to the movies. During my 6 week maternity leave I went to about 6 movies…that’s right 6 movies.   In the next month or so there are so many movies coming out that I am so excited about.

May 27th – Sex and the City 2 – I am totally predictable in wanting to see this movie it is one of those girly movies that just make you want to dress up and have a cocktail to go and see.  The movie brings the 4 girls Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha to a Middle Eastern country (not sure exactly where) for a very extravagant vacation.  One question besides Miranda doe these women work or have any previous engagements? How do they drop everything for these lavish outings? The trailer shows Carrie running into Aiden….former fiance.  So the big question is does she cheat or doesn’t she. I can’t say that I wouldn’t blame her.  After what Mr. Big did to her in teh first movie I would still be pissed.  I’m sure it is going to be a really funny feel good movie and one of those movies that make you feel a part of something as all franchise movies do.

June 4th – Killers – Katherine Heigl and Ashton Kutcher play a married couple that knows nothing about each other.  Katherine Heigl is playing a very straight laced very conservative up tight women…like she normally does that happens to be married to an undercover CIA agent.  He brings her in on his escapades which I’m sure are going to make for some really funny and silly situations. This movie will probably be really predictable but I am still really excited to see it Ashton Kutcher is really funny and doesn’t act enough anymore.  We will see.

June 30th – Eclipse – Words cannot express how excited I am to see this movie.  I am a huge Twilight fan and this next installment is my favorite of the series.  It brings up many new issues that the saga has not dealt with before, true jealousy, sexual tension and major action.  I am probably most excited to see the interaction between Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner as Bella and Jacob and the tension that this causes in Bella and Edward’s relationship.  All of the trailers and clips look amazing and I feel ike a 12 year old Twi hard when I think about the movie…so embarrassing
